I am studying a Master of Science in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
When I graduate I will be a counsellor/psychotherapist and I will be seeing people from all variety of ages with a variety of mental health issues.
Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy means that we are studying a multi modality approach. The modalities / theories I am training in are:
– Person Centred approach (PCA) – (Founder Carl Rogers)
– Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
– Attachment Theory (AT) ( John Bowlby)
Because these three theories are so different in their approach within our course we viewing them through the theoretical lens of The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) (key publication Systems of psychotherapy A transtheoretical analysis – James O. Prochaska and John C. Norcross – these two figures must be referenced within this essay) The key aspect of this theory is the process of change, Levels of change and Stages of change.
To help understand our clients better within our course we study Christine A. Padesky Case formulation ( Key publication – Collaborative Case Conceptualization) This is a way for us as therapist to work effectively with clients in CBT. We also use Arnold A. Lazarus Multimodal behavior therapy technique called BASIC ID. (Key Publication Multimodal behavior therapy A. Lazarus – must in used in Essay) – B – Behavior, A – Affect (Emotions),
S – Sensation, I – Imagery, C – Cognition, I – Interpersonal, D – Drugs and biology.
I am in my second year and am now as a trainee counsellor/psychotherapist seeing two clients on a weekly basis for 50 mins.
This assignment will be a case study on one of my clients I am seeing called Rebecca. There is a 50 minute recording that the essay is based you – I will send you this recording so you can listen and write the essay according to the recording. I have been seeing her for 4 weeks at 50 mins per. I have been working under the ethical code of the BACP (must be referenced within this essay) Within this essay I need to demonstrate a break down of the client into the three different theories I am currently studying (PCA, CBT, AT, TTM).
Below are the guidelines given by my lecturer. This essay must be written in third person. Refer to the client as Rebecca or the Client and refer to myself as the therapist.
